So who will license 'Hurriquake'?
Time for a storm wrap-up from California, as well as a look ahead to new attractions for the 2024 season.
We learned a new word here in Southern California this week - "hurriquake." That's when Mother Nature trolls you by throwing a hurricane (okay, tropical storm) and an earthquake at you at the same time.
Ultimately, it was almost no harm, so no foul, as California's stormwater diversion system worked well, promised high winds failed to materialize in many areas, people pretty much stayed off the roads and out of first responders' ways, and save for some wine bottles in an Ojai-area market, we all seem to have come through it unscathed.
But several of the local parks did choose to take Sunday off while the storm moved through. Disney and Universal opened, but almost no one showed.
Theme parks close in advance of Hilary: We tracked the developments as the storm approached and then moved through the area. Bonus: We also discovered this week the secret of what Californians buy when prepping for a tropical storm. As perhaps should have been expected, it ain't bread or milk. (Gluten and dairy? Horrors!)
SeaWorld Parks offering new weather guarantee: In response to so much extreme weather in recent months, the SeaWorld and Busch Gardens parks have introduced a new weather guarantee, allowing visitors to get a free return ticket not just for rain but also for extreme heat. Get the details here.
